Herd Facts

We love the challenge of breeding a better Guernsey cow. However, genetics is only a piece of the big picture. High-quality feed, proper nutrition, good herd health and dairy husbandry practices are all interdependent and necessary for the herd to perform to its genetic potential.

Our herd's current rolling herd average is 22,560M, 977F and 739P on a 2X schedule. Our goal is to have heifers calve between 23 and 24 months of age. To maintain a high-level of production, we strive for a 12-month calving interval.

We switched to a TMR ration in August 2006. Production increased, but the biggest improvement has been cow health. Cows freshen in and are ready to go to work.
